There were fingerprints all over the outside of the kitchen cabinets and microwave, not to mention the countertops and toaster had visible crumbs all over them.
The living room rug looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in several weeks, I found hair (not mine because I just arrived) and lots of crumbs on the couch (not IN the couch, just laying on top) so no one had brushed that off at all. I took my sandals off and was immediately greeted to the feeling of crumbs/sand/etc on the bottom of my bare feet. All of the floors in the suite were beautifully tiled, but unfortunately no one had bothered to sweep/mop in who knows how long. Upon digging around, I managed to find a push broom and a miniature dust pan in one of the closets in the suite. I proceeded to sweep the entire suite myself. I also had to clean the toilet myself, as no one had done that either. There was a thick layer of dust on the back of the toilet, and the inside of the bowl was not clean either (I'll save you the gory details). I also brought a lint roller with me so I then proceeded to lint roll all of the hair/crumbs off the couch and easy chair.
I'm only about 50% sure I'd go back at this point. My hesitation is for the most part due to the lack of cleanliness in our room. I was sort of disgusted by it to be honest.
However, I was a bit annoyed by the inconsistency of their rules and regulations at this hotel. On their website, as well as in an order confirmation that was emailed to me, they state that you cannot smoke inside the hotel (obviously) but that you certainly CAN smoke outside on your balcony. This was one of the reasons I chose the waterfront suites, as they boasted "your own private balcony with smoking permitted". As soon as we checked into our suite though, I walked out onto the balcony only to be greeted by a "no smoking" sign. Just to be sure, I called the front desk and asked if I could smoke out there. They told me "no, you can go to the common patio at the end of the building"....interesting, since I have 2 documents from the hotel that both claim smoking is permitted on your balcony. I'm not sure what that's all about, but I smoked on the common patio. I'm pretty sure if I wanted to make a fuss about it, the hotel would lose, seeing as how they haven't bothered to update their website or their emailed confirmations to reflect these new rules about no smoking on the balconies.
Isiting with friends for eating, shopping, socializing, and generally good time. Convenient and attentive staff. Good food and drinks.
The room itself was very pretty and well equipped. Our kitchen had a microwave, full set of dishes/glasses, coffee maker, toaster, tea kettle, refrigerator and cutlery. I even found a few odds and ends like a corkscrew, bottle opener, cocktail napkins, toothpicks and potholders which was very much appreciated. There were also pots and pans supplied, although I did not do any cooking while I was there.
My complaint lies with the cleanliness of the room. From what I could gather, the housekeeping person literally walked into the room, changed the sheets, maybe (and that's a big maybe) wiped off the bathroom sink, and that's it.
I can understand if I'm going to a Motel 6 or something at $75 a night, then yeah, I'm not expecting anything to pass the "white glove test". But if I'm paying $280 a night for a room with a 3 night minimum stay, that room had better be perfectly spotless when I arrive. I honestly don't think that's a very extreme request on my part. It's really too bad, because other than that this is a fairly nice place to stay. Right next to the beach, overlooking the river, the staff that I spoke with were all very helpful and friendly.
Needless to say, I was highly annoyed. Not only was I immediately cleaning house on my honeymoon, I was paying close to $300 per night for a room that I actually ended up cleaning myself, and better.
This room has been comfortable, convient and well worth what we paid! The pool is clean warm as fun. The breakfast, however not full, is enough before walking to oval beach. I would recommend coming here I'd you are looking for a central and homie feel for your stay.
This is my second time here and it was such a beautiful stay. Room was super clean, staff is very friendly and just a beautiful view from the hotel. Plus its close to everything.
Nice rooms, good staff, we stay here each year and love it.
I liked that they have waterfront suites which are "adults only", so that was a bonus. The "adults only" suites are separated from the main hotel so you won't hear the sounds of noisy children playing in the pool. The suites are overlooking the Kalamazoo river, which is very pretty.
